Identifying significant events in your novel

As a group, determine the 6 significant events in your novel thus far (from the first 75 pages)

1. Have one person in your group make a copy of the significant events document 

2. Share it with the others in your group and then share with me at jmurphy@sandi.net

3. Decide the 6 most significant events using the questions in the document to guide your choices.

4. Distribute the 6 events among the people in your group.

5. Each person is responsible for describing their event, quote, & explanation.

Due at the end of the period.

Survey, Editing, and Visual Memoirs

Today, you will have an opportunity to work on final edits for your written memoir and spend some time working on your visual memoir. 

1. Please complete the survey for Homework

2. Please complete analyzing the quotes that reveal Connie's personality. Connie assignment 

2. Last edits on written memoir being accepted. 

3. Continue working on Visual memoir. 


Part II: Visual Memoir Project

Directions: Now that you have written a story you have captured in time, you will retell this story visually. You may choose from the following choices

  1. Create a visual slidedeck of your memoir in 10 pictures or more with captions of the events / moments throughout the memoir

  1. Create a painting or sketch of the memory of the event with a paragraph explaining the visual in one paragraph.
  2. You may create a comic version of your memoir

  1. Create a podcast explaining your memoir - explaining the story and its significance
  2. Create a video of your memoir - with the google slides, iphone (upload to you tube private share with certain people or bring in on a jump drive)
  3. Create a physical visual photo / memory book of your memoir with captions of the significance of each moment of the event.
  4. Create a narrative poem of your memoir with a visual
  5. Create a song capturing your memoir and perform it for the class. Include a paragraph explaining what you went through in each stanza and
  6. Create dance moves that express the emotional journey of your memoir w/ paragraph or small speech explaining how the moves relate to the story
  7. Create a soundtrack for your memoir. Divide your memoir into 4-6 moments, then choose a song for each moment. Burn the songs onto a CD or click links to them. Describe why this songs fits the scene of your memoir in a couple of sentences for each moment. O

Vague Vs. Specific writing
Vague: She went home in a bad mood. [What kind of a bad mood? How did she act or look?]
Specific: She stomped home, hands jammed in her pockets, angrily kicking rocks, dogs, small children, and anything else that crossed her path.


Vague: My neighbor bought a really nice old desk. [Why nice? How old? What kind of desk?]
Specific: My neighbor bought a solid oak, roll-top desk made in 1885 that contains a secret drawer triggered by a hidden spring.


Vague: He was an attractive man. [Attractive in what ways - his appearance, personality, or both? Can you picture him from reading this sentence?]
Specific: He had Paul Newman's eyes, Robert Redford's smile, Sylvester Stallone's body, and Bill Gates's money.
